Custom Wedding Invitations: Lijy & Mark

I was SO thrilled with the final results of Lijy & Mark’s Save-the-Dates, I was a little nervous about how high we set the bar for their invitations! We began working on our concepts for the invites back in early November 2009. (When you decide to do a completely custom invitation suite, you’ll want to be sure and build in plenty of extra time…after all, it’s a one-of-a-kind set made especially for you and your wedding!) Design finalization happened early on in the new year, and then they headed off to the printer. This past weekend, after all of the pieces arrived, a group of girls got together for an invite assembly party and the final touches were added so they could be sent out into the world this week! Here they are:

The invitations for Lijy & Mark were so much fun to create. Our goal was to make something that drew inspiration from both their Indian and Trinidadian backgrounds, and merge that together. Things we considered were bright colors, paisleys, floral embellishments, layers, and pops of gold. We looked at countless formal Indian designs to establish the overall look. When it came to choosing the illustrative elements, instead of going for the very elaborate and perfect Indian motifs, I selected slightly looser, more casual embellishments to reflect the laid-back feel of the Caribbean. This concept was carried out in the whole set: invite, RSVP card, information card, and monogram motif. We opted for flat printing, which is more cost effective, but chose to add additional elements to the printed cards to give them the tactile feel of something more expensive. Lijy was our embossing guru, and I was SO impressed by how the little touches of gold stamps and embossing could really finish out the cards. It may have be tedious, but it was worth it. To top it all of, we selected beautiful colored envelopes from my favorite store, Paper Source. Here’s a little peak at our assembly party:

It’s so exciting to open up the packages from the printer!

Megan always looks this happy when she uses her little die cutter :)
