This post is a long time coming and I’m so excited to share it! A few weekends ago I drove down to Newport News, VA to photograph one of my best friends, Holly, and her fiance, Erik. I am a bridesmaid in their wedding, so obviously won’t be photographing them on that day, but I wanted to get them in front of my camera before then! Holly and I met on her first day of school when she transferred to JMU our sophomore year. Our teeny-tiny rooms were right across the hall from each other, and through the doors I found out she was an art major like me. From that day on, she was a part of my life and art school experience. We had so much fun together collaborating on projects, spending odd hours at the studio, working in sketchbooks, creating our senior shows, and inspiring each other. Today, Holly is a photography and graphic design teacher for high schoolers. She is every bit as creative as she was in school, and I think we planned her engagement session for months! I could go on and on describing this shoot, but I’d rather just get to the pictures:
Meet Holly & Erik! We brought along quite a few props for the shoot to try and capture something fun for their save-the-dates. I think this was my favorite:
Kissing on carousels… it’s harder than you think…
I got to hear Erik play the piano and he is melt-your-heart amazing- will we be hearing from you at the wedding!?
Prop A: giant red balloons:
Prop B: Bubbles (not just for shoots with 3 year olds…):
Prop C: initial letters from my Anthropologie days:
And a few down by the water:
Holly & Erik- thank you for everything! Thank you for your ideas, your creativity, for showing me all of your favorite places, and for being up for anything. I cannot wait for August 7 :)

Best pictures I’ve ever seen in my entire life. Holly is beautiful and Erik is pensive.
Absolutely AWESOME !!!!!! Great job of capturing their love and happiness !!!!!
I loved the pictures! They made me cry! Absolutely beautiful job!
Jenni, thank you for all the wonderful pictures. Kent said it best, you did capture the love they have for each other. I am so glad that Erik is in Holly’s life!
