HOW WOULD YOU CLASSIFY YOUR STYLE OF PHOTOGRAPHY?

These days there are too many genres of wedding photography to even count and we can’t say that we fall directly into one category or another. As young(ish) women, we try to shoot every wedding as if it were our own. Not that we’d shove the bride out of the way and steal her veil :), but the way we would want our own weddings to be photographed…and that is a great balance and a little bit of everything. For the most part we like to stay out of your way and let all of those beautiful moments that naturally occur on a wedding day happen all around us. But we also want you to have some beautifully crafted, artistic portraits of yourselves that capture the spirit of your personality as a couple. We’ll even do a few more formal portraits if your parents are a little more on the traditional side because we want to make sure that all of our VIP’s are happy. That includes some portraits of the whole family captured quickly and painlessly, without hours of posing. What differentiates us from other wedding photographers? We are first and foremost out to make beautiful and flattering images through lighting and lens choices. We will not sacrifice flattering images for the sake of a “cool angle” or “artistic images” that are just plain unfriendly to our subjects.

HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO WE NEED TO BOOK YOU?

For the most part we book up about 6 months to a year out from your wedding date. Popular and long weekends tend to book up faster so it’s best to get in touch as soon as you have a date solidified. We cannot hold dates for anyone without a signed contract and retainer.

WHAT AREAS DO YOU SERVICE?

Most of our weddings take place in Washington DC, Northern Virginia or Maryland but we have photographed weddings all over the place including New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Spain, Mexico and Trinidad. Some of our weddings in 2010 will take us to Lake Tahoe, Nantucket, San Diego and Palm Springs. So if you’re planning a destination wedding, take us along with you. Weddings beyond 60 miles of Washington DC will incur some travel fees. Please inquire for a quote.

DO WE NEED TO FEED YOU AT YOUR WEDDING?

Yes, please. We work very hard for many hours and appreciate it very much when you make arrangements to take care of our basic food needs. After all, a happy, well-fed photographer is better able to concentrate on your wedding without a growling tummy. We eat pretty much everything and are wedding cake connoisseurs.

WE HAVE AN UNCLE/ FRIEND WHO WANTS TO BE A PHOTOGRAPHER. IS IT OKAY IF HE/SHE TAGS ALONG WITH YOU TO ASK YOU QUESTIONS/ SHOOT OVER YOUR SHOULDER ALL DAY?

Although we don’t mind if your family and friends take pictures at your wedding, if there are any overzealous guests with professional cameras who are obstructing our ability to work, we ask for your full support if we need to ask them to stop or back off. We try to be as polite as possible but sometimes we do need to limit their access to the action, especially during key moments or important events.

CAN WE GIVE YOU A “MUST-TAKE” SHOT LIST?

Please try to avoid giving us lists copied from magazines or wedding planning books. We ask for your trust to allow us to work without the constraints of lists to check off. If we are busy looking at your list, we could be missing the beautiful, naturally occurring moments happening all around us. But please don’t hesitate to make sure we know what types of images are most important to YOU or your families. The more stories you can share with us and the better we know all about the dynamics of the relationships in your families, the better we will be able to document the unique dynamic of your family and friends. If you have a brief list of family groups that you would like portraits of, please by all means share it with us. Our wedding coverage is all about you, not what a magazine says you should want.

DO YOU POST WEDDING IMAGES ONLINE?

Yes, we use our wonderful partner lab Pictage for online proofing and print order fulfillment. Images posted on Pictage will be color-corrected but not retouched.

WILL OUR WEDDING IMAGES BE RETOUCHED?

All images in your finalized & approved album design will be fully retouched. Fine-art matted prints ordered through us go through the same level of finishing. We cannot retouch all wedding images since it is a very time-consuming and laborious process. Below are 3 images to help you understand the difference between straight out of camera, color-corrected and fully retouched images.

WHY SHOULD WE BOOK STUDIO DIANA FOR OUR WEDDING?

Among the many reasons we could rattle off on this one, we want you to know that we have been photographing the weddings of some of DC’s most creative couples since 1987. Yes, we’ve been around for a long time and we’re not going anywhere. We’ve also been listed among Washingtonian Magazine’s top wedding studios in the area every year since 1998. We’re not saying that your friend’s friend (the one with the good camera) might not do an okay job if your wedding is all outdoors and well lit. But although an amateur might grab a few great images, they cannot guarantee consistently high quality images under difficult conditions like dark skies, high ceilings or inclement weather. We come to every wedding prepared with plenty of back-up cameras, top-of-the-line lenses and any lighting equipment that we may or may not need to make sure we nail it every time. We invite you to visit our studio in old town Fairfax to see for yourself.
